Benefits of Using Gypsum Plaster

The first fact we learned about Gypsum in our school days is that it is a mineral found in the layers accumulated beneath the saltwater after thousands of years. The mineral gets separated when the water evaporates. Gypsum also has a chemical name which is calcium sulfate dehydrate since it is made up of calcium sulfate and water. By dehydrating this gypsum mineral what we get is gypsum plaster. Plaster of Paris is something which is more commonly heard of, during the whitewash in our homes. It is basically made from gypsum. Gypsum is one of the oldest building materials as it’s been found in the pyramids of Egypt in around 3000 BC, whose construction is still a mystery. Gypsum is an essential part of building construction and it is the place where gypsum is mainly used. Educational places, working buildings, hospitals, industries, etc. require the use of this mineral to make their building interiors. From renovating the house to making designs and structures this mineral has plenty of applications. Gypsum has some unique properties which have attracted many builders to use for interior construction.

Various Benefits Related to Gypsum Plaster are given below:

Poor conductor of heat:

Since gypsum has low thermal conductivity it keeps the walls cooler comparatively. Fans and air conditioners inside the rooms take lesser time to maintain a pleasant temperature.

Incombustible:

Water is also an essential component of gypsum this property contributes to making it fire resistant. It can prevent the fire from spreading for around 5 hours.

Easy to apply:

Its application is simple and can also be removed easily. It can be applied directly to the bricks with finishing and without extra effort. There are fewer chances of having cracks on the walls when gypsum is used because when gypsum reacts with water it produces less heat compared to cement. So it is better to use than conventional plasters in which chances of getting cracks are more.

Fast results

Cement plaster requires around 20 days to get dried fully whereas gypsum plaster settles down in 3 days making the construction rate fast. After drying it becomes harder and stronger being lightweight at the same time which led to the high durability and stability of this plaster.Gypsum manufacturer in India are taking benefit from it and making huge amount of money.

Eco-friendly

It is known to be recycled without losing its properties. This is one of the main reasons why many constructors have started to adopt it. No additional water is required and a natural resource can be saved if gypsum is used instead of cement which needs plenty of water.

Availability

Natural sand is required for the manufacturing of cement which is not abundantly available in the market. This is not the case with gypsum plaster. Gypsum is readily available in the market readymade.

Clean

One more advantage of using gypsum plaster is it doesn’t create excessive dust during construction keeping the surroundings clean.

Gypsum has several advantages associated with it and its use has been increasing day by day. Gypsum manufacturer in India are coming up with more methods to modify the properties of gypsum plaster and make the best out of it.
